Starting with July 1, 1850 the City of Troy Superintendent of Burial Grounds’ record books became much more specific about places of interment. Prior to then, places were usually only identified as “Corporate” and “Catholic.” Corporate often meant one of the City-owned cemeteries (but not always), probably most often the Pawling Avenue Mount Ida Cemetery. Catholic often meant the Mount Ida Catholic Cemetery, but starting in 1845 perhaps sometimes Saint Mary’s Cemetery, or Catholic cemeteries elsewhere.
The transcription work is in progress, many fields have not been filled out yet, and there are are probably a lot of transcription errors here – and the Superintendent probably made a fair number of errors as well.
In the old records, 2 Burial Ground refers to the Cypress Street Old Mount Ida Burial Ground, also called the Old Troy Cemetery (among many other names). 3 Burial Ground refers to the Pawling Avenue Mount Ida Cemetery, often confusingly referred to as the Old Mount Ida Cemetery. Both of those cemeteries had multiple receiving vaults and the entries sometimes refer to those.
