September 16- Thursday,  7:30PM  held at Trinity Episcopal Church ( 585- 4th Avenue)- Ned Pratt ,president of the local chapter of the Society of Architectural Historians will present a program on Troy's endangered churches. Open to the Public,refreshments served.

September 18 Saturday 12:30PM  Starts at Melville House(114th Street)- a walking tour of Historic Lansingburgh churches Ned Pratt will visit 5 historic churches. Free and open to the public.

October 14- Thursday,  7:30PM  Melville House (114th Street)- Walter J. Hollien, a preservation architect involved with many major restoration and preservation efforts and historical organizations(such as the Industrial Archaeology Society), will provide a lecture and a presentation on Lansingburgh historic architecture,including information and photographs relevant to establishing historic districts in Lansingburgh. Open to the Public,refreshments served. PLEASE NOTE THIS IS ONE WEEK EARLIER THAN OUR USUAL GENERAL MEETING DATE

October 21- Thursday,  Begins 5:30PM  Veterans of Lansingburgh (771-1st Avenue)- Annual  Dinner/Auction Gala      Cocktails 5:30-7 PM  you can socialize and browse our auction items,Dinner is a choice of Beef,chicken or fish, Silent Auction concludes,Speaker will give a brief history of Lansingburgh. Please reserve by October 12.Fundraisers such as this make it possible for LHS to continue restoration on the Herman Melville house,educational workshops,tours and other community events.Even better, its an evening of great good,an auction with something for everyone,and an ideal time to reacquaint with friends and meet folks you havent seen recently.

November 11- Thursday 7:30 Melville House (114th Street and First Avenue) in Lansingburgh. "An Evening with John Connors"  John Emmett Connors, well-known local artist with international training, will have the opportunity to demonstrate how his philosophy for artistic expression, his personal story, and his passion for historic places come together through his artwork.  We will see Lansingburgh through his artistic eye as he presents both established landmarks and also lesser-known places that are the heart and soul of Lansingburgh and Troy. 

November 18- Thursday,  7:30PM  Melville House (114th Street)- our annual Holiday Party will be held, including an auction of small antiques, collectibles,Chrismas books and Holiday ornaments.
Party is open to the public and refreshments will be served.

 

We are excited to announce that the Lansingburgh Historical Society (LHS) is hosting its annual fundraiser.  It will be held at the Veterans of Lansingburgh at 777 1st Avenue, Lansingburgh, N.Y. on Thursday, October 21, 2010.  Last year’s event was a huge success and we look forward to sharing another festive evening with you!   Fundraisers, such as this, make it possible for LHS to continue restoration on the Herman Melville house, educational workshops, tours and other community events. 

 

 

This engaging evening will consist of:

·        Cocktail hour:         5:30 PM – 7 PM

o       Allows people to socialize before dinner and browse/place bids on silent auction items

o       Includes hors d’oeurves, coffee/tea and drinks available for purchase

o       Musical entertainment

·        Dinner:

o       Menu options:   Beef, chicken or fish (Please indicate your preference below)

·        Silent auction:         5:30 – the auction will conclude following dinner

o       Items will include original art, prints, gift certificates, books, quality collectibles and ‘Burgh memorabilia

·        Speaker:  will give a brief presentation about the history of Lansingburgh
